As a result of the Patient Protection and Affordability Care Act (P.P.A.C.A.) being signed into law on March 23, 2010; each state will be required to establish their own health insurance exchange by 2014. Essentially, an exchange is a marketplace where consumers can compare different health plans and rates in one place. This concept already exists today, with privately owned health exchanges offering new “reform-ready” health plans from all major insurance companies.
